I’m not usually the boisterous type, but inside my imagination is popping like a thousand fireworks going off. My mom says I’ve been like that since I was a little kid, too.
Darnetta James is an 8th grade student at Whistling Pines Junior High.
A character who first appeared in the Secret Paths series. She showed up at Whistling Pines Jr. High by the third Rockett game in Rockett's Secret Invitation. Her locker doesn't appear in the Hidden Hallway until the third game either. Darnetta is on the Whistling Pines yearbook staff. She is good friends with Jessie Marbella. Although she can be a little bit shy at times, Darnetta performed her own solo at the school dance, alongside Arrow & The Explorers. She has a crush on Chaz Franklin.
In her Secret Paths game, she wears her hair in beaded braids, but by Secret Invitation, her hair is unadorned and worn with its natural afro-texture. She has pierced ears and brown eyes. Her speaking voice is high pitched but not quite nasal.
Darnetta was voiced by Kashiko Omdahda.
Interests & Skills[]
Darnetta likes ghost stories, photography, computer science, the circus, and dragonflies. She is very proficient with computers and offers technological tutoring for $7.50/hr after school.
Since she was little, Darnetta has been interested in dragonflies and building a tiny circus featuring the insects.
Academics[]
Darnetta has Mrs. Tinydahl for homeroom. Her fall report card shows photography and PE as her best subjects and math and social studies as her worst subjects. Her grades are not below C-.
She works on the yearbook staff as lead photographer. She collaborates with fellow photographer Rockett on the yearbook's candid shots. Before winter break, Ms. Chen held an internet scavenger hunt competition for her students. Darnetta teamed up with Jessie and the two completed the scavenger hunt in the fastest time of the day, winning movie tickets and a dinner at Ms. Chen's home.

Secret Paths in the Forest[]
Darnetta feels like her mother always compares her to older sister Peggy. Peggy has a clean bedroom, good grades, and no patience for Darnetta's childish behavior. Darnetta wants to build a dragonfly circus but is rejected and misunderstood by her family until the player explores her secret forest path which is a sculpture garden leading to a flowering berm. Darnetta realizes that deep down she knows her mom loves both of them; and if Darnetta can bring herself to stop fighting with Peggy then they can learn from each other.
Her secret stones are Cooperation, Friendship, Transformation, the story stone, and two unknown stones one showing a person sleeping outside and dreaming of a bear, the other showing a circle of tents around a campfire. Her folk tale is "The Bears Who Couldn't Get Along."
